Students will find many additional
facilities at the Russell
House, including seven meeting
rooms, four lounges, a multipurpose
auditorium, an expanded
game room, a new book store, and
a new information desk.
The auditorium, called the
Ballroom, is a multifunctional
room capable of holding every type
of activity ranging from concerts
to dances. For concerts, using an
average size stage of 30' by 16', the
Ballroom can seat 764 people at its

maximum. Various functions will
be held in either the Ballroom or
the Golden Spur, depending on the.
size of the program.
On some occasions, beer will be
served in the Ballroom, depending
on the nature of the event. An
advantage of the Ballroom is that
bands that are in between amateur
and superstar status can perform
there. The Ballroom can also be
divided into separate rooms for
individual meetings.
Bob Todd, Director of the Russell
House, says, "1 guess basically
what the Ballroom gives us now is
flexibility, before, the only thing
we had to work with was the Spur
and the Coliseum, and maybe some
outdoor shows which were limited
to early fall or late spring."
The Golden Spur has been expanded
to accomodate more
people. Across the hallway, the
Technical Services Department
office will serve as a soup-andsandwich
shop during the summer
and also as a TV room during the
academic year. A meeting room in
the Spur presently used for storage
will facilitate pinball machines and
other mechanized games.

The gameroom has also been
expanded, and separate lounges
for different activities are
provided, including a TV lounge,
two conversation lounges, and a
study lounge.
Operating at the old location of
the post office, the Campus
DWKSiore is nearing completion.
After all facilities and merchandise
are moved to the new
location, the old bookstore will
undergo remodeling. Also to be
remodeled are the cafeteria and
the snack bar, which is now in
progress. The information desk
has been relocated on the second
floor of the new addition of the
building.
Built in 1955, the Russell House
was expanded in 1958 and 1963. I he
last expansion was designed to
accomodate a maximum of 10,000
students. Todd said that the
Russell House "was not designed
to do what it was doing those last
couple of years. The amount of
program space in terms of the Spur
and the gameroom," he adds,
"was just not adequate. It really -
needed to be expanded to serve the
community."
