Selfish Choice. This new book deals
with a 22-year-old ex-marine living
in New York City in 1947 who meets
a Polish girl who has been in a Nazi
concentration camp. He explained
that it is basically about Nazi
concentration camps, what he
termed "the most tragic event of
our era." Styron said it is partially
autobiographical and mingles fact
and fiction.
Styron is also the author nf i.i??
Down in Darkness, The long
March, Set This House on Fire, and
The Confessions of Nat Turner, for
which he received a Pulitzer Prize.
The award was first presented
by the university union in 1972
when three writers received it.
They were Eudora Welty, Allen
Tate and Robert Penn Warren. In
1973 the award was given to Robert
Lowell, and in 1974, to Archibald
MacLeish.

McBryde Quadrangle is in the
process of phasing out hall advisers.
Intra-Fraternity Council
president John Bensen said USC
made an agreement stating when
26 beds in each fraternity house are
filled, the executive council of each
fraternity chapter has the
responsibility of a hall adviser. The
executive council is composed of
the officers of the fraternity, he
explained.
As long as USC has a waiting list
for dormitory space, the fraternities
are allowed to sign out their
rooms.
"We write the university one
check for the beds. This saves
them money and we also get a
rebate," Benson said. "The

The executive council is
responsible for room keys, for
room rosters and for damages.
McBryde residents do not pay a
security deposit, Benson said.
McBryde receives no money
from USC for dormitory government,
he said.
The system started in some of
the fraternity houses this year,
Benson said, and by fall 1977 it
should be in effect throughout the
quadrangle. In case the fraternities
fail to fill all 26 beds, they are
billed for those unfilled, he said.
There are 14 fraternities housed
in McBryde, Benson said, and they
have one senator in the Student
Government Association.
