CAROLINA HAS defeated Voorhees, Furman, Rutgers and
Barrington (RI). After ten games, the Chicks have a .405 team
batting average, while their opponent's average is .184.
The team is comprised of 15 players, including three
scholarship performers. Lauren Hughes, Nona Kerr, and Jean
Robbins hold starting positions at first base, shortstop, and
center field, respectively. "All scholarship performers are
playing real well," Porter said.
Janice Wolfe catches for the Chicks, while Linda Copeland
has been doing most of the pitching. Alternating at second base
are Vicki Mann and Charlene Dubose, while Robin Drain plays
third base. The outfield, which Porter says is not quite
established, consists of Denise Nanney or Kathy Bayhmann in
rightfield, Karen Pappas (or Robbins) in centerfield, and
KoDbie McUrary or Janet Hoffman in left field.
EVEN THOUGH the Chicks have performed well, a tough
schedule is still ahead for the team. USC left Wednesday for a

defeated Carolina last year in the same tournament.
