I<t7f?-7(i nrsc S The special session was called by Vice President Trey Lot! in a l>it of parliamentary maneuvering following adjournment of the meeting at which the election results had been certified and then contested. I v;on:i|(irc iw/'mvlini) In llio II election appropriations bill, the certification of results should be the last act of this year's senate, j Lott said. I Because the certification was the first business at the regular session, a request to reconsider the election was made. Before reconsideration Sen. Gail Blizzard asked for a count of the senators to insure the presence of a quorum. A quorum of senators was not present. However, after the meeting adjourned because of ^ the lack of a quorum, Lott called for a special session | with the "assumption that no one would call for a } quorum." The election results were certified during the special session and after certification the session | was adjourned. According to the constitution, the approval of the results at the special session was legal because there was no official count to check for the presence of a quorum. Lott said no roll call was taken because a motion to proceed directly to new business was accepted. Following new business, which was only the j election certification, a move to adjourn was passed, j k I I ?
