By working with two fifth-grade
classes at Benson, the ROTC can
teach rocketry principles and
develop close relationships with
the children. Each class divides
into four groups and works toward
the completion of a model rocket
by April 1.
Projects of this type were
established in 1972 because the Air
Force ROTC wanted to work in the
community. The blood pressure
program was started while other
volunteers began working with the
school children. The first exercise
was at Caughlin Road Middle
School. Service has included the
building of a 28-foot glider, in
structions in bicycle safety and the
development of tutoring.

At the Saturday meeting, S.C.
Rep. Kay Patterson, D-Richland,

in 1976. Ten delegates
attended the group's second annual
conference.
John Middleton, a spokesman for
the AAAS, said the creation of the
alliance was accepted as a project
by the association earlier this year.
