Solomon Blatt, D-Barnwell, said
they support the medical school.
Blatt said although the new
medical school ha? sizable opposition,
he and other proponents

continue to try to stop it.
Blatt spoke Wednesday morning
to the governor and to other persons
to explain why he supports the
USC School of Medicine. He said he
has contacted members of both
houses to rally support.
It is possible the new Veterans
Administration (VA) Hospital will
be reevaluated, Blatt said. There is
no certainty, he said, a new VA
hospital can be built in a city
without a medical school.
However, Joan Kershner, Administrative
Director of the
Columbia Veterans Hospital said,
"No VA hospital is built without an
act of Congress. The new hospital
has been designated as a
replacement for the current one
that was built in 1932."
Kershner said although the final
