we would keep it close," Casey
said. "We stopped it for a while,
but when they came through it
made a diffenence."
Temple led for most of the first
half before English, who finished
the game with 18 points, connected
on a reverse lay-up to tie the game
at 29-29. Guard Jackie Gilloon
made a free 'hrow and Billy Truit
sunk a 25-foot jump shot to give
Carolina a 33-29 halftime lead.
Both teams shot better in the
second half, but neither team shot
particulary well. One of the
biggesst differences in the game
was the play of USC forward Golie
Augustus, who scored seven
second half noints
"I would give Golie the credit
today," MeGuire said. "He gave
us the boost we needed." Augustus
finished the game with 10 points
and was Carolina's second highest
scorer.
THE GAMECOCKS continued to
struggle, and Temple led by four
points midway through the half,
but jump shots by Truitt and
Gilloon and a three-point play by
Augustus gave USC a lead it never
lost. The owls stayed close,
however, shooting well when
Carolina went into a zone defense
late in the game.
Gilloon dribbled away much of
the remaining time, and Carolina
k won its 13th game in 19 attempts.

A quick man-to-man defense
helped Anderson College women's
basketball team defeat USC , 66-53
Saturday in the Carolina Coliseum.
The score was tied at 28 at
halftime. Anderson switched to a
man-to-man in the second half and
both coaches said after the game
this enabled the Trotters to build a
substantial lead after half-time .
"We play better against a zone,"
said USC's head coach Frankie ;

Forrester's game high 36 points \
but coach Annie Tribble said, j
"Although she is our leading |
scorer, I felt we were depending j
too much on her in the first half, j
and I told them so at halftime." i
Forester came itno the game j
averaging 25 points and 13 j
rebounds per game.
"We are a running team, a fast
breaking team,"Tribble said. "I
don't think Carolina's record is
indicative of their abilitv. Wp
don't take them lightly."
The win left Anderson College ]
with a record of 19-2 while USC is :

Porter was most pleased with the j

not been doing that."
