ence is pretty good."

Lott said the absences don't
effect the functioning of the
senate. "We don't have very
many absences, or enough to
affect it that much."
After last year's elections,
only 60 of 64 senatorial seats
were filled. The senate is now
down to 43 members after 17
senators resigned.
Lott estimated that 80 per
cent of these senators resigned
because of personal reasons.
He said he has talked to all but
two of the senators who
resigned.

Stephen H. Ackerman said.
The Faculty Senate has met
twice.
"There will be absences here
and there and we may have
this problem," Ackerman said.
The Faculty Senate Steering
Committee is considering ways
to deal with absenteeism, he
said. "We have also asked for
a special commitment from
the senators," he added. This
comitment urges each senator
to attend every meeting.

Ackerman said.
This year's Faculty Senate is
changed structurally over last
year's. In the past, it had 18
per cent representation of the
faculty, Ackerman said. The
senate consisted of 168
members last year.
At the beginning of this year,
that figure was lowered to 10
per cent representation of the
faculty, Ackerman added.
They also added represen
tatives from the regional
campuses, bringing their
membership down to 121, he
said. This figure includes 44
new members. Senators are
elected for three year terms.
"Faculty Senate is
legislative in almost every
aspect of college life,"
Ackerman said. "We exercise
the functions of the entire
faculty. It's votes are subject
to the review of the faculty, the
president, and board of
trustees."
