Da finances, said a budget will not ehase of a con A >registration pro4 Registration p 'enthusiastic' By DUNCAN MANSFIELD Gamecock Staff Writer A plan for computer-assisted registration was received with "considerable enthusiasm" by the Academic Advisory Committee, Thursday, according to Barry H. Rosen, assistant to USC President William H. Patterson. The committee's approval of the registration system gives the Office of Administrative Services the go-ahead to set up the plan for implementation by fall 1976. THE ACADEMIC Advisory Committee is com posed of all academic deans, the provost and representatives of other University offices (such as Admissions, Student Affairs, Scholastic Standing, etc.) The computer-assisted registration plan was ap proved two weeks ago by the registration committee resulting from a three-year study made inconjunction with the computer center. Rosen said Patterson has "approved the plan in principal." Nicholas P. The success of the new registration system is dependent on an active studeht participation in pre regihtration. Under the new plan, pre-registration requests are tabulated by the computer center and sent to academic departments. These figures will be used by the departments in making class allocations. Students' class schedules will be confirmed from their pre-registration requests. Students will not need to go to the Coliseum to register, if their class requests do not change before their pre-registered semester begins. The University "has not actually made a purchase eyet" for a basic computer package from another school which is using the registration system to.be used at USC, Mitchell said. "We have already worked out most of the details" in adapting the package for a USC program, he added. Mitchell said the only factor that could hinder the implementation of the new system for the fall, would be its $30,000 to $50,000 cost.
