Ticket
policy
confusing
By MICKEY TRIMARCHI

A bill recently passed by the
Student Senate that alters the
present ticket policy has left many
students with misconceptions,
according to treasurer's official
Bill Cartledge.
The bill, if approved by the
Board of Trustees, will enable one
fulltime student to get a non
student into an athletic event with
one ID. Under the present system,
students must have one ID ac
companying each ticket.
Keith D. Norvell, chairman of
the student Athletic Committee
said he has had "extensive talks
with the ticket officals and they
have showed me how this system is
not feasible."
"Although on the surface it may
seem like a great idea, I don't think
it will really help the students,"
said Roger Bocco, student-ticket
manager. "It will probably help a
student with a date but not a
student entering by himself."
Ray Faircloth, USC ticket
manager, is against the proposed
ticket system because "it would be
like giving away a complimentary
ticket." If you allow that many
complimentary tickets, you are in
fact giving away a potential $7.
That is $7 less than the athletic
department could have had."
Cartledge cites the entrance to
athletic events as a "privilege. It's
just like the infirmary. You can't
expect to get any treatment
without having paid your fees.
Students must pay the $13.50
athletic fee to qualify for those
privileges ."
At Saturday's game with
Georgia, security guards were
carefully checking ID's and
validation stamps. Pinkerton
Security, Inc. of Columbia, is hired
by the athletic department for this
purpose.
"All we do is check the picture
and the fee circle," said one guard.
"If we have any trouble we refer
them to the treasurer's assistant."
The majority of the ticket
problems at the game were
students who forgot IDs. Before
that student is allowed to enter, he
must be verified as a USC student
and show some sort of proof or
identification.
Non-students and students who
cannot be verified must pay $7 for
a ticket.
"There are so many ways to beat
the system," Bocco said. "I just
try to figure out ways to stop It. If
the new system does go through
there will be ways to beat that
tno."
