Rosier's th pace Caro' By GLENN SAWICKI Gamecock Sports Writer The Carolina soccer team defeated Voorhees, 8-1, Saturday afternoon on the strength of John Rosier's three goals. Carolina, which dominated the action throughout the game, found it difficult to put the ball into the goal in the first half, USC had many opportunities but failed to capitalize as they repeatedly mishandled passes in front of the Voorhees goal. Ken Jefferson finally broke the ice for Carolina midway through the first half as he scored on a deflection of a Rossier shot from the right side. The roof caved in on Voorhees as Jefferson's goal was followed by two quick scores from Rosier and Steve Rogalski. Voorhees tallied their only score on a shot lobbed over the head of golie Paul Bristol just before the half ended. Voorhees went through the motions in the second half exhibiting their lackluster performance as Carolina Intrai By RAY COOPER Gamecock Sports Writer Intramural football gets under way tomorrow with a record 39 teams participating in this year's intramural program. The Gamecock is going to pick a game of the week in in tramural play this year and report on the game. Results of other games will also be reported each week. This being the first week of play, Robert C. Dalrymple, intramural sports director, aided the Gamecock in selecting the game of the week this week. This week's game will be between Sigma Alpha Epsilon and Kappa Alpha Psi. The game will be played at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Field B. Tennis got under way last week, but rain caused a lot of matches to be delayed. A new rule this year is in effect for tennis and for all individual participation sports. Rosier led the way with two scores, one coming with a tremendous ball handling effort drawing the Voorhees defender completely out of position to push his shot past the goalie on the right side. Jefferson, Marshall Reeves, and Tommy Hart rounded out the scoring for USC on the afternoon. Rosier wasn't very satisifed with the afternoon he had. "I didn't do my best" he stated. "We are building ourselves for next week. That's when it gets tough." Head coach Yank Albers took a different outlook.Albers said, "The score was gratifying but I was disappointed with our style of play. We were not running well, and we played too relaxed because it wasn't a hard game. We had many missed op-. portunities, but when you control a game like we did, you come to expect them." The Gamecocks will be at home on Saturday against Columbia Bible College. In football, after a touchback the ball will be placed on the 19 yard line instead of the 20 like last year. Also this year, each team will be required to wear some type of jersey with numerals. If your team does not have jerseys, they will be furnished by the PE depart ment. In order for a team to get in the playoffs this year, they must have won at least two thirds of their games. This is being done because so many teams are in the league this year. This will also decrease the time required to play the playoff games. At least three officials will officiate each game. More are available if the need arises. Only team captains will be allowed to converse with of ficials this year.
