ABA From Page One On Sept. 2, the Board lowered the grade-point ratio requirement of 2.- in the SPAT program to 1.66 making 14 students eligible for the fall term who would not otherwise be admitted. Most notably among the 14 are the sons of State Sen. Edward E. Saleeby and Sen. Ernest F. Hollings. Hollings' son, however, is one of three who decided not to enroll. ACCORDING TO Board Chairman T. Eston Marchant, the Board's decision to waive normal entrance requirements was guided by a report of the Law Center's Academic Standing Committee. The report, appporved by Foster, declared that those who earned between a 1.66 and 2.00 grade-point ration in this year's SPAT program are entitled to a measure of relief. The committee recommended that those students who fell in the 1.66-2.00 range be admitted to the 1976 SPAT program. Law students' reaction to the Board's resolution last Saturday is highly unfavorable, according to Student Bar Association staff member Justin Thornton. He said that the students will probably wait and see what the ABA does before taking any further action. Clyde M. Scarborough, president of the South Carolina Bar Association, said that the S.C. Bar had not yet discussed the Board's action. He did say, however, that they were to discuss the matter Wednesday during their annual September meeting. COED From Page One concerned in getting consent from their parents to live in the coed dorm. USC will require this in writing only for those residents under the age of 18. Helfer said a number of residents are worried about getting "thrown out of their rooms." But the Trustees have stipulated that the.coed plan would not be enacted before the 1976-77 academic year, and at no time while an academic year is in progress. Both Helfer and Thomas want the housing status of Columbia Hall changed from its present plan to one allowing 24-hour visitation rights, seven days a week. Helfer said the dorm had been trying to get this plan for the past two years. "RESIDE NCE LIFE wants a liberalization of all dorm policy, and to eventually make them all coed," Hill said. He stressed that this would not be campuswide for many years. The Trustees used the "successful" coed plan at Bates West as a criterion for approving a similar system at Columbia Hall. Helfer noted, however, there is a difference in floor-plan between Bates West (apartment style) and Columbia Hall (traditional dorm rooms).
