Erskine, trailing 1-0 at the half, needed a controversial call to nullify a Carolina penalty kick to avert its first loss of the year. John Rosier reared back and slammed in the goal which would have vaulted the Gamec)cks to a 2-0 lead early in the second period. Instead, some jostling on the front line prompted an official to erase the score, apparently due to some confusion regarding an advantage interpretation. After the contest, the official met with Carolina coach Yank Albers and admitted the room for mistake. Regardless of the ruling, it certainly failed to detract from the excitement of intense and most physical action. It took some late game heroics by Rosier to send it into a pair of scoreless 10-minute overtimes. Kenny Jefferson, replacing the injured Paul Bristol at goalie, rose to the occasion and delighted a good turnout under the overcast skies. Jefferson, who plays with the delicacy of a bull in a china shop, constantly flung himself into the pit with polished diving tactics. Carolina scored first on a Rosier fast-break and lost the lead on two second half Erskine goals, one of which was a penalty shot. Thus set the stage for Rosier to do what he does best.
