All allocation requests must be
completed on a program by
program basis. Because each
organization on campus has a
specific purpose, such a request

programs around the group's
purpose. Researching costs and

spring hearings to discuss funding.
Money is allocated on the merits of
the programs each organization

conscientious SAC is.
Organizations must justify every

assistant to Dean Alexander.
According to Roughton, the student
body as a whole doesn't realize the
work involved in planning
programs. Treasurers have a
difficult job, she said, but the
experience they gain will be
valuable later on.
THERE WILL be a series of
workshops in the fall by stucent
affairs for treasurers of
organizations receiving money
from SAC. The training program
is designed to minimize any
trouble organizations normally
have in planning budgets.
Clubs and organizations are
eligible for funding if they have
open membership. Religious,
political, fraternal organizations
are ineligible for SAC allocations
unless they can offer a program for
the University campus.

The Viet Nam-era Veterans re-ad j ustment Act
of 1974 has qualified more than 1,200 veterans for VA
educational loans. With the cost of living still on the
rise, the new act may be a welcome sign of relief to
many veterans, according to the regional VA office.
The act qualifies those veterans attending school
under thie GI Bill who are in need of extra
educational financial assistance. The loan may
total up to $600.00 per academic year, in addition to
the regular GI Bill stipends.
In order to qualify for a loan, applicants must be
enrolled at least half-time and have sought a loan
under the Guaranteed Student Loan Program of the
Higher Education Act of 1965. Courses must lead to
an identified and predetermined professional or
vocational objective.
The VA office added that repayment of principal
and interest is deferred while the student is enrolled
at least half-time, and that no interest is accrued
until repayment of the loan is started.

In a news release, James T. Moore, director of the
VA Regional Office in Columbia, said that "The
loans are not automatic to all students, but ap
plicants who demonstrate a clear need can qualify
for loans of up to $600.00."
In another release, Moore said that "Veterans in
South Carolina are turning to their GI Bill benefits
in record numbers." The increase of 37 per cent
over a one-year period resulted in a total of more
than 9 million dollars.
Nationwide, the biggest recent increase in
enrollment was at the junior college level, with Viet
Nam-era veterans surpassing World War II
veterans in total numbers using GI Bill benefits for
college educations.
The VA has also reminded verterans of their right
to request correction of what they consider errors or
injustices in their military records. An application
must be submitted to the branch in which a veteran
has served, but the VA can provide the necessary
DOD form.
Veterans seeking to receive qualification for the
new loan act should visit the VA Regional Office.
