possibilities of turning
professional.
"It is perfectly legal for an
athlete to seek an attorney for
counsel and advice concerning his
future," Walsh told the Gamecock.
"It would not be legal under NCAA
rules for any athlete to hire a
lawyer to negotiate a contract and
still be eligible to play college
athletics. Boswell has only sought
the advice of a lawyer," Walsh
said.
When Boswell was asked
Tuesday if he would turn pro his
only comment was, "you got any
money for me?"
Boswell didn't apply for a hard
ship ruling. He became eligible for
the draft when he had to sit out a
year at USC after transferring
from South Carolina State. Ac
tually, Boswell's senior class has
graduated.
The 6-9 natural forward has told
the Gamecock in earlier interviews
that he desires to turn pro if "it is
any kind of offer."

The source which asked to
remain unidentified said, "We
were told for public relations sake
to go along with the desires of the
Board of Trustees. They asked us
not to have any disfavorable
comments if approached on the
matter by the news media."
The Gamecock has learned that
at least two coaches of major
sports at USC do not desire
rejoining the ACC. USC's football
coach Jim Carlen is the biggest
supporter among coaches who
favor rejoining the ACC. The two
dissenting coaches asked not to be
identified at this time.
The issue of the possible re-entry
of USC into the ACC will be
discussed further by ACC officials
at the specially called meeting of
the NCAA this August in Chicago.
At that time all athletic directors
and faculty athletic chairman will

To Challenge
USC ...Later
Carolina will be playing some
of the nation's best basketball
teams in years to come ac
cording to USC's Associate
Head Coach Donnie Walsh who
handles USC's basketball
scheduling.
In 1976 the Gamecocks will
play Alabama at home during
the season. Michigan and
traditionally tough Kentucky
will visit the Carolina Coliseum
in 1976 as well. USC will play
Indiana in the Sugar Bowl
Tournament in 1976. Marquette
and Notre Dame are on the
schedule for several years to
come.
"I can't understand why
people are complaining about
our schedule," Walsh said. "We
try to schedule other clubs but
they won't play us."
Walsh said he had talked to
officials at UCLA and Southern
Cal about games in the future
but nothing could be arranged.
He said that Maryland of
ficials said no when he called
them recently wanting the
Gamecocks to challenge the
Terp's. North Carolina wants to
play USC at a neutral court
according to Walsh.
"The hardest thing about
scheduling now is the ACC
situation," Walsh said. "I don't
want to book too many dates for
the future because we may
rejoin the ACC."
