student opinion polls, surveys
etc. This idea is worth a try for at
least a year, with the success of
the project determining the fate
of future graduate assistants
working for SGA.
A full-time secretary to receive
$5500 is proposed to be hired for
the legislative branch. A full-time
secretary is also to be employed
for the executive and judicial
branches, together costing $6,600.
Since administrative work
accumulated by legislative
branches has increased each
year and the responsiblities of the
Student Senate will increase
tremendously in the coming year,
a full-time secretary will be
needed for the legislative branch.
Other itemized expenditures
include three separate budget
listings for trips to the annual
convention of the National
Students Association at
Washington, D.C. Aug. 17-24.
Hil said one person from each
of the branches in student
government is needed because of
the numerous seminars and
workshops involving all different
phases of the SGA operation.

Another suggested change is
the increase in the student body
treasurer's stipend from $200 to
$1,200. The treasurer is taking on
the extra task of chairman of the
Student Allocations Commission
Several student senator

stipend. Since the treasurer's
salary was increased from $550
last year to its present $900, the
Senate should wait before in
creasing this stipend again.
One item deserving special
attention is a proposed $4,000
budgeted to return to SAC. Hill
said his budget planners could
foresee at least this much money
not being spent in the next year,
and he wanted it placed in SAC to
be spent for other student
organizations. Money not used
by SGA -is returned to the
University at the end of the year.
Another item not included in
this budget is the elections
budget. (It usually presented as
a separate budget). It is hard to
conceive of an election being

been left out of the "summer"
budget, a budget Hill says in

may be wise for them to pass only
what is necessary for the sum
mer even though the budget

If money is not needed for
certain items until next year,
why not wait until next fall to
consider them instead of forcing
decisions on something everyone
is not yet sure of.
