Aboui Constr BY CHUCK CROMER Entertainment Editor Probably the greatest form of entertainment today is the cinema. Without a doubt it is the most popular activity at USC as it yearly is seen by more than 58,000 students. The Cinematic Arts Committee (CAC) of the Russell House University Union is responsible for nearly all film bookings on our campus. Compared to other university film programs, CAC is considered to have one of the top five schedules in the country. Its blending of fine foreign films with some of the greatest American classics provides enough variety for the most discriminating critic, whether he be a fan of the avant garde or the western. Because of the expansion of Russell House that's currently taking place, it will become necessary by June for the con struction crews to tear up the steps and entrance to the theater on the second floor of the building, making further use of that facility impossible. The present theater has been used for nearly five years. It has always been perfectly situated for students to see a movie or partake of some other activity in the Russell House. Convenience, then, has always been one of the greatest assets of the Russell House Theater. With the relocation of the films to some other facility on campus, con venience for the student and at tendance at the films will indeed suffer. The CAC has been informed that use of the theater will not be possible again until probably June 1976. So for a one-year interim, an alternate facility for the showing of films must be found. There are several excellent facilities on campus where the films could be shown without sacrificing the convenience so essential to having a good at tendance at the movie showings. The bar area of the Spur will not be open for business, though. This area can hold up to 200 students comfortably. It's unfortunate the administration of this university can't aid CAC in its quest for a film facility where movies can be shown at one location every night. With CAC needing good attendance at all its pay films t< have enough money to book films for its Spring 1975 schedule, the loss in revenue could be catastrophic. What's even more disconcerting is the "musical films" game will become even more puzzling since the Golden Spur will not be available as a film facility this fall. God only knows where the free films will be shown next year.
