In a letter published in this newspaper, USC student Frank Knight complained of the difficulties in getting treat ment at the center after spilling shampoo in his eyes. Mr. Laurich wanted to know why the "Student Forum" broadcasted an atheist, but had no one to counter his views. First of all, "Student Forum" is 'a live-air, open medium for anyone to express his or her views. Mr. Laurich's opposing views would have been welcomed by those running the "Forum," had he decided to call. Knight's letter raises serious questions about the quality of health care at the infirmary. And, although the attending nurse's actions have been defended by health center Director Dr. Isao Hirata, Knight claims other doctors he has seen have said that his eye Gamecock ' encountered on "Student Forum"? It is one of the basic concepts of the program for an interstudent discussion to occur, moderated by the people at the station, as in a debate. The potential of such a debate on the subject on religion is great, and could have proved to be an exciting occasion on the "Student Forum." The blame does not belong to WUSC-AM, but to those who remain silent when they could have their views aired with everyone else's, that is, when they feel strongly about their convictions. The question of health care at USC has always been a touchy one. Rumors of medical mishaps at the in firmary circulate oc casionally , are systematically denied by health officials and then disappear. The main gripe of many students is the infirmary's practice of closing at 4:45 p.m. on weekdays. Although I am not a Greek, I can attest to the fact that the sororities and fraternities that were in the show spent many long, hard hours working on the show. Denny Galosso took people who had never performed and produced a quality show. The Greek Follies was one of the best (if not the best) amateur performance at USC this year. This show was not just for the Greeks, but for everyone. The profits went to Brothers and Sisters, a charity organization. I feel The Gamecock failed to give the Greek Follies the publicity it normally gives USC activities. This show certainly merited more attention than The Gamecock devoted to it. S. G. Many feel the University should revamp the health center policies, insuring that trained personnel are on hand 24-hours a day. Hirata said a doctor would have to be paid $45,000 a year for working three days a week, which would result in skyrocketing student health fees. While admittedly the hiring of a full-time doctor would be expensive, the Knight case clearly demonstrates that questions of health care quality at the health center are very real. The USC administration would be wise to study the issue to determine whether a revamping of the Health Center policies is in order.
