New presI makes trE BY DEBBIE HOWARD Of The Gamecock staff Steve Hill. recently elected as Student Government Association (SGA) President. is making the transition from an everyday student to the most powerful student position on campus. "It's really a funny feeling," said Hill. "One day you are just another regular student, and the next day everyone wants you to come to their committee meetings." Last year, Hill was the Secretary for Commuter Affairs and held- a Cabinet position in the SGA. As President of the SGA, Hill said he had to keep up with everything that wag going on in the different segments of the SGA, as well as oversee all aspects of Student Government. In addition, Hill said he now has to keep up with twelve to fifteen Cabinet positions as compared with his one Cabinet position last year. Hill also is moving back to campus for the upcoming year for convenience's sake. "I'm beginning to realize what power I have and what I can do," said Hill. There has been no open op position to anything Hill has been working on thus far. "I'm sure that there are some students and faculty members who probably don't agree with everything I'm trying to do, but no one has com plained directly to me yet," said Hill. Hill's campaign ran relatively smooth. Plans for the upcoming year include some interesting possibilities. "One of the main concerns of most schools in South Carolina right now is establish ment of a student and faculty representative with voting power on the Board of Trustees," said Hill. In USC's case, the Board members are chosen by the state legislature. Different legislators are being contacted now for commitments concerning this plan. In addition, the new Dean of Student Affairs, who will be taking office the first of July, plans to keep in close contact with SGA as well as individual students. Food service and housing will be two concerns of the Student Affairs Office. Another idea under con sideration is the establishment of a commission to study the student teacher booklet. "The Commission will find out what other schools are doing along this line and decide how our evaluation should be," Hill said. The evaluation should be available for students by registration for spring semester, 1976. Concerning the SGA budget cutting idea, Hill said, "We are cutting our budget by $10,000. .1 seriously doubt we will need to spend $35,000 this year.
