Cutting the Student Government
Association (SGA) budget from
last year's $44,500 to $34,000 for the
fiscal year is Russell Putnam's
goal.
Mike Honeycutt is trying to get a
voting student member on the
University Board of Trustees.
Putnam and Honeycutt are
assistants to SGA President Steve
Hill.
"There are three types -of
budgets--executive, legislative and
judicial." Putnam said. "There
are also the summer budget, the
fall budget and the spring budget."
The complete budget must be
finished before the end of April.

Honeycutt is studying attempts
by previous student ad
ministrations and what they ac
complished. "We are just laying
the ground work now: getting
opinions, feeling our way and
taking suggestions."
"We're also looking into other
schools to see if this has been at
tempted, and how," he said.
Putnam, a Student Senate
Finance Committee member last
year, said his first step "is to look
over the records for the previous
year. One problem with the books
is that they aren't detailed enough.
"What I'd loike to do is set the
books up in four columns. The code
number of the item followed by the
description of the item, cost per
unit and finally, total cost." The
books are not detailed now.

reduce the budget which will cost
nothing. "I want to get graduates
and advanced undergraduates in
accounting to do some studies on
the budget and report them.
"This not only costs us nothing,
but also the students can learn and
gain the experience as well. It can
work both ways," he said.
One of Honeycutt's problems is
deciding how a student trustee
would be chosen. "My first im
pression was to put the student
president up there, but the problem
there is the one-year term of office.
"The board could use this as an
argument against us," the senior
journalism student said. "But,
also, if it were the student
president, the board might just try
to pacify him until his term is up."
An alternative choice would be a
