With some 31 schools providinj competition in the relays, Carolin sparkled in the non-scoring event. In addition to the sprinters heroics, Leon Cook took a spin( tingling first place finish in the si) mile run at 29:06. Paul McLeod, John Brown, Ala Shoultz, and Mark Gediman, USC's sprinting quartet-grabbe first place with a new meet mark < 3:23.7. The same squad als finished second in the mile relay k 3:14.4. Besides the Gamecocks, the tournament field will include In diana, Cincinnati and Georgia. The tournament will be played in December. In 1969, in their only appearance in the tournament, the Gamecocks won the Sugar Bowl title. They defeated Notre Dame in an overtime battle to capture the title. Carolina has also signed to play in the 1975 Holiday Festival tournament at Madison Square Garden.
