Ad Outdoor la Crucible plans The Crucible, Carolina's literary magazine, is planning a unique Spring issue, although the editors are looking for more material to fill their pages. "We're hoping to get about 60 pages for the new issue," editor Scott Kearns said. "The written material will be printed on ivory colored velum stock, and we've gone out of our way to get good material for photo reproduction." He plans to use a double-coated enamel stock and a 150-line screen for the most complete reproduction of fine detail in photographs. Kearns said a person can submit any material he wishes, although the editors are looking for reasonably mature university work. A 10-person editorial board, headed by Shaye Areheart, is responsible for selecting the material for print. Members select material without knowledge of that material's author, Kearns said. "We always seem to get more poetry than anything else. We are especially looking for photography, short stories, one-act plays and original music scores. What we are trying to do is give the students the highest quality magazine we can for the money we are allotted," he said. The Crucible will sponsor an arts festival April 19 or 25. Although the University's Art Department gave The Crucible little assistance in a similar undertaking last fall, the organization received great support from the Theater Department, Kearns said. The loans, up to a maximum of $600 in one academic year, were established by the Vietnam-era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act of 1974, enacted by Congress in Dec. 1974. This Bill affects some 3,000 members of the Carolina com munity. "At this point, we are going to jinvite the six final candidates to campus for personal interviews," Smith said. The six final candidates are: James B. Campbell, vice president for Student Affairs, Eastern Michigan University; Paul P. Fidler, associate dean of Student Affairs, USC; Glenn W. Stillion, vice chancellor for Student Development, Western Carolina University; Richard D. "The committee is soliciting opinions and comments from both faculty and student concerning the final recommendation of these six candidates," Smith said. From this list, the search committee will submit three to five names to the provost for final appointment. The committee is an advisory committee, and the provost and the president made the final decision, Smith said. "We hope students and faculty members comment on the final candidates," Smith said, "and we would hope these comments are made in writing and sent to me or another committee member."
