Senate b-t BY LEE POWELL Of The Gamecock staff A budget which lays the groundwork for next month's Student Government Association (SGA) , elections, was approved Wednesday by the USC Student Senate. The bill, proposed by the Finance Committee, stipulates the amount to be spent on elections and covers other election procedures. As passed by the senate, there will be a general election on March 4, and a run-off election March 6. Sixty workers will be needed, Kilgo said, and additional costs amount to $200. Earlier it was thought 50 workers could do the job. All funds are to be redistributed from either the SGA contingency fund, the executive budget cabinet subdivision, or the legislative budget. Bob Swelgin, elections com missioner, said he would like more .pollworkers. The senate rejected the proposal. The placement of the polling machines caused much debate. The bill proposed having - one machine in Russell House, to which Swelgin said, "Having only one poll in Russell House is ridiculous." Swelgin said most students are there sometime during the day and long lines would form, causing potential voters to leave in impatience. Kilgo said machines are set up to attract voters at all areas of the campus. "I think we've got a good precinct structure," Kilgo said. The machine in Callcott is unnecessary because placing it in' the lobby would limit its use, Swelgin said. Sen. Andy Sandsbury proposed the poll in Callcott be relocated in Preston. "I think it's a real shame not to have one in Preston," he said. -Sandsbury said many people were used to having machines in Preston and that the dormitory had one of the best voter turn-outs of all voting areas last year. Sen. Jim Stuart favored putting a machine in Preston but not taking one out of Callcott. .Sen.
