Grov BY BETH PADGETT Of The Gamecock staff The Dean of Student Affairs Search Committee is narrowing the number of applications it has received for the position, Jay Smith, chairperson of the com mittee, said. The committee received 242 applications before the deadline. "We are starting a very slow process now of discussing each applicant," Smith said, "and the committee will meet twice a week Lowman nami Zmnerman ch Elections were held Monday night for officers of the Inter Fraternity Council (IFC), and newly-elected officers are scheduled to take office in about a month. The winners and their respective fraternities are: president-Tony Lowman of Chi Psi; vice president--Willie Zinnerman of Kappa Alpha Psi; treasurer-Craig Dawson of Sigma Nu; and secretary--Woody Hubbard of Kappa Alpha. Outlaw mentioned that Zinnerman was voted in overwhelmingly. The two alternatives discussed included broadening the committee at the second stage of the review of the applications. Inviting several affiliate non-voting members who would participate in the final stage of the review process has also been discussed. These non-voting members would submit written comments to the committee prior to final deliberations. At the Feb. 4 meeting, the committee decided on eight people as a possible replacement for Richard Wertz, a committee member. Wertz has been nominated as a candidate for the position of Dean by someone in the University community. Wertz resigned from his position as committee member before he applied as a candidate for dean, according to Smith.
