Search fi BY BID GRIFFIN Of The Gamecock staff The search for a successor to Charles H. Whitten, Dean of Student Affairs continues. In December meetings, the Dean of Student 'Affairs Search Com mittee (DSASC) unanimously approved drafts of letters of nomination, rejection and af firmative response. The letters will inform the ap plicants of their nomination and initial review. Another letter will tell them if they have been rejected or accepted for a second review. Those applicants who pass the second review will be personally interviewed by the committee. The advertisement for the Dean of Student Affairs position was also revised, according to the com mittee minutes. The new advertisement "The Dean reports directly to the Provost of the University and is responsible for developing plan ning, and coordinating student services. Demonstrated imagination, energy, flexibility, sense of humor, self-confidence and experimentation in student affairs work are required. "An ability to communicate with USC treasury moves offices, from Rutledge USC treasurer's office will be moved from the Rutledge L. Osborne Building to Petigru College at the corner of Green and Pickens streets Friday. The student loan and scholarship accounting offie and the internal audit staff also will be moved to Petigru. All treasury offices will be located on the second floor. The treasurer's office will be closed Friday, Jan. 17, for moving purposes. Regular working hours will resume Jan. 20. The following offices will be moved to these rooms in Petigru: Treasurer's office, room 210; Student Depository and Cashier Section, room 206; Student Loan and Scholarship Accounting Section, Room 208;Check processing and travel, Room 207; Regional Campus Accounting, Room 201; Internal audit, Room 202. The ad is presently slated to .appear in several academic magazines including the Chronicle of Higher Education, The Academe, and The New York Times Sunday section, according to Sig Huitt, Director of In formation Services and press representative for the committee. Several applicants have applied for the position, and the committee moved that they be sent a copy of the ad and asked to re-apply, ac cording to the DSASC minutes. President Patterson stressed the need for Student Af fairs to work harmoniously with the University's academic side. Dr. Richard Wertz, a member of the DSASC and the Dean for Residence Life emphasized the need for the Dean to have budgetary expertise as well as experience with students. The Committee is presently debating the need of a time limit on the length of time the new Dean can hold office, a proposal suggested by Eileen Berlin, a committee member. After the holiday break the committee will meet to discuss the positions requirements. The DSASC plans to be reviewing all applications by February in anticipation of the leading can didates campus visits.
