Freshman Phil IcKee and
sophomore Walt Wolfe earned pins
as the Gamecock wrestlers
defeated South Carolina State
Tuesday evening, 30-22.
The meet was the third outing for
the grapplers but the first withiw
the state and the first in the victory
column. Prior losses to the
University of Tampa and Southern
Tech had spoiled the start of this
season's dual campaign.
Gary Bird and Mike Demauro
also scored wins over highly-touted
members of the Bulldog con
tingent. The 11-7 victory was
especially sweet for the senior
Demauro, who divides his time
between cheerleading and
wrestling, as he defeated a former
state champ from the Columbia
area, Stanley Johnson.
