"The thing that really upsets me is that we have allowed hiring of one USC employee to turn into a political matter," Mungo said recalling the "campaign" tactics of coaching prospect Mooney Player. "The longer Mooney goes unchecked," Mungo said there is an "excellent possibility" that prospective USC athletes are being scared away by the tactics. "In good business first you define the problem," Mungo said, "then they (the search committee) should have found who was available and carried through in the proper procedure and hired a coach." He said there was no reason for the delay in hiring a coach and that the biggest problem was "a lack of thinking" by the Board. "We're screwing around with courtesies by interviewing assistant coaches and other coaches who aren't going to get the job anyway," Mungo said.
