Plans for j ."I have never really been hungry in my life, and I want to know what it's like," said Jane Young, a Baptist chaplain. In conjunction with the Hunger Hurts program, Nov. 25-27, Young and three other University Chaplains--George Duffie, Woody Hammett, and Harry Phillips-will begin a fast Monday mor ning, drinking oniy fruit juice for 48 hours to show their concern for the world hunger crisis. Hunger Hurts is also providing students and faculty a' means of showing their concern for the hunger problem, according to Joe Lyles, a student working on the program. Concerned individuals may either sacrifice one meal each day for the three days, give up a favorite food each meal, or eat a bread and water lunch at a special table in the cafeterias Tuesday. m..nI IuM11 n alum.,mmm"WI Surp Take $39 roui Deadline fol Russell Fill Yot Camping Nov. "It is conceivable that out of our efforts at least a few people may be saved from a starvation death this year, and that is a worthwhile goal." Each dollar contributed will send 271 pounds of food to needy people through Church World Service, he added. "But it should be of some symbolic value to indicate our commitment to what we're trying to do with the Hunger Hurts program," said Jane Young. The Hunger Hurts program was con ceived by the University Chaplains to make the Carolina community aware of the problem. "We realize that hunger is a reality, and we want to be involved in a personal way with it," Phillips said.
