Thompson, head of the faculty senate committee on petitions and academic standing, said his group is Studying the problem and, gathering information on it." "The general theme of the broadcast is to take numbers and give them meaning,". Mark Van Treuren, a journalism student who is in charge of the coverage, said. "We are not denying the im, portance of who wins or loses Tuesday night," Van Treuren added,"but we want to show the trends that are developing and what these end results will mean in government and decision making." Edward Westen and Robert Kahn, USC political science professors who specialise in American politics, will analyze election night results. Richard Uray, chairman of the journalism Broadcasting Department, will moderate the coverage. Uray's main function will be to keep the political scientists from going over the people's heads, Van Treureh said. Van Treuren said the coverage will be the most extensive in the state. "We don't have topy people to work," he said,"and we've been doing research since September." The broadcast will cover all major state-wide races, all six congressional races, constitutional races and lHouse races in Richiand and Lexinston Counties.
