In one of its more productive
meetings of the year, the USC
Student Senate dealt with the
controversial issue of Ray
Snyder's four Student Government
Association (SGA) committees.
The senate voted to move into
executive session to discuss the
pros and cons of Snyder's ap
pointment. An executive session
means no one except senators,
presiding officers, and people
which the aforementioned request
to stay may be present at the
meeting. Members of the press
were excluded.
Snyder was recommended by tne
Powers and Responsibilities
Committee to be appointed to the
Scholarship Committee, Academic
Responsibility Committee,
Scholastic Standing and Petitions,
and the Cafeteria Committee. He
was asked to come before the
senate last Wednesday to answer
questions.
Snyder was asked -what his
present SGA position was, and
replied by saying he did a lot of
work for SGA President Leigh
Leventis. He also said he tried to
keep tabs on senators with respect
to attendence at committee
meetings. Leventis said he was
"unofficially an administrative
aid."
Other questions asked dealt with
his qualifications for the Positions

Snyder remarked, "In the last few
years some of these committees
have really gone for nothing." He
said he hoped to correct that
situation.
Jim Stuart, chairman of Off
Campus Student Affairs Com
mittee, then requested the senate
vote for confirmation of Snyder. "I
strongly urge"' a careful
examination of the information,
Stuart said. Senator Frank Shealy,
however, moved to accept Snyder,
saying, "He's done what he could
in a positive fashion for the student
body." The senate then went into
executive session.

The senate then took a vote, and
Snyder was approved.
Stuart said he changed his vote
because he saw no grounds on

Also discussed at the meeting
.was the current situation around
the USC Afro American Students
Association. Afro apparently has
reformed their membership
policies, but there remains some
discrepancy in their spending
budget.
Sen. Russell Putnam proposed a
bill that would suspend funds to

Norvel said.
The bill allows for room

between the hours of 3 and 8 p.m.
It also calls for other rules to be

unanimously by the senate without
discussion. Leventis and Norvel
discussed the odd hours as not
being a part of any current plan.
The bill went to Leventis, who
approved it.
Leventis said while he thinks the

bill is "a step in the right direc
