Dr. Richard Rempel, head of the committee, said the parking problem is leading to a great amount of inconvenience for both students and faculty. He called the problem one of "enormous magnitude," giving the reason that there could be less parking space available in the near future than there is now. One of the main concerns of the meeting was the possibility that there might not be enough parking places for the new social sciences center when completed. Another reason there may be less parking space for the future,. Rempel said, was that Pendleton Street parking may be eliminated. This could come about if the residents surrounding the campus desire the street to be closed and have ample reason Rempel met last week with a subcommittee consisting of USC faculty members and residents from the neighboring area. He called the session a "constructive meeting," for they discussed the possibility of future expansion of USC. "The ideal solution would be underground garages," Rempel said. This would defWnitely be looked into, he added, but recognized the problems of cost and time involved. He also poted the possibility of USC purchasing the land making up the periphery around the university solely for parking use. "Everywhere we turn we im pinge upon the immediate en vironment," Rempel remarked, referring to the committee's quest for solutions.
