News Cancer seminar set An in-depth look at local cancer reslearch will be the theme of USC American Cancer Society spon sored symposium Saturday. The day-long public session will feature an address by Dr. Fred Rapp, director of the Cancer Research Program at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, The Pennsylvania State University, and presentations by local cancer researchers from the departments of biology and chemistry and the College of Pharmacy. The cancer symposium will be held at 10 a.m. in Room 106.of the Physical Science Center. The local cancer research is funded by an American Cancer Society grant of $30,000 made in 1972 to USC to encourage cancer research. Nineteen grants havc been -made from the funds by a local administering committee. The University also has $345,788 in other American Cancer Society sponsored research underway. Symposium speaker Rapp is world renowned for his work in virology. He is responsible for the medical school and graduate programs in microbiology at Penn State University. Maris joined the faculty in 1973 from the John Hopkins University where he was program ad ministrator for a $1 million National Institute of Mental Health Training Grant in Suicidology. He is author of the book "Social Forces in Urban Suicide." LEEP assistance Those students seeking financial assistance under the Law En forcement Education Program (LEEP) for the spring 1975 semester must apply no later than Nov. 1, according to Robert E. Fancher, chairman of the Department of Criminal Justice at the University of South Carolina. Any person applying for funds from LEEP must have been enrolled in the University during the fall 1974 semester or have been accepted for initial enrollment for spring 1975. Only full time students are eligible for the loans. To remain academically eligible for con tinued financial assistance as student must maintain acceptable academic standards, Fancher sa;d. LEEP funds are provided on a priority basis. Forms for LEEP and further information on eligibility can be obtained in Room 1020F in the Coliseum or from the office of the Director of Student Financial Aid.
