The fall edition of the Crucible,
Carolina's literary magazine, will
have a fresh look, Crucible staffers
said last week.
Ian Davis, a member of the
Crucible's Editorial Board, ex
plained the changes as being part
of an effort to involve more
students in the Crucible. "We need
the student's help in finding the
best literary and art work, and
we'll want their support in reading

semester, promises to be different

would be grinted in tabloid form.
Davis cited the tabloid form as
being identical to the form of the
American Poetry Review and the
New American Review. He said
the idea behind distributing it with

entire staff will vote on each entry,
unlike the past where each sec
tion head decided what went in
from his area.
The spring issue will revert back
to the magazine form, according to
editor Scott Kearns.
Kearns is tenatively planning a
-Arts Festival for Oct. 15 at the
Humanities reflection pool. Plans
are being made for an art display
stand and music provided by
various music students. Kearns
cited the Festival as being part of a
drive to "show" the students that

Homecoming Court were an
nounced Wednesday night by the
Homecoming committee.
The eight were the top vote
getters in Tuesday's voting.
Homecoming committee members
reported more than 800 students
participated in the homecoming
election.

Carl Naylor, of the Crucibe
editorial staff, claimed the
students were getting a great deal
for the "$4,385 given us to put out
our two issues," as he cited rising
printing costs. "This year we want
people besides English majors to
submit their stuff so we can ac
tually have a USC Crucible," he
said.
Kearns said the deadline for the
fall issue was Nov. 8, with Dec. 5
being the Crucible's release date.
