Honors college proposed

The report has been given to Dr. Charles Coolidge,
chairman of the Academic Forward Planning Com
mittee.
South Carolina College (SCC) faculty would come
from existing undergraduate colleges and serve on p
rotating basis. There would be no permanent faculty
and one teacher can serve for no more than three years,
according to the committee report.
The honors college will have separate curriculum with
three types of academic programs allowing for
students desiring degrees of varying involvement'; in
the colleges.
A special Admissions 'Committee would screen ap
plicants to the college, and the committee anticipates
increased scholarships and "certain awards attached
(game tickets, teas at the Master's (college dean)
House, invitations to college functions and bronze
vlaoues on certain dormitory rooms designating the
occupant as the 'John Doe Memorial Scholar')."
The committee's suggested criteria are "a minimum
Scholastic Apptitude Test comulative score of 1,300 (the
maximum score is 1,600) with no lower than 600 on
either verbalor mathsections, a high school rank in the
top 10 per cent and a brief autobiographical essay." If a
student doesn't meet all requirements, the committee.
suggests a personal interview with the college master.
