good student, with a 3.64 GPR as a~

"Bill has had a lot of bad luck"
said USC coach Paul Dietzel. "This
past spring when we felt he was
looking just great he turned hi3
ankle while doing really nothing.
Basically I think he is a good holler
guy and as he gets more confidence
he will be better."
"I am not very big for a
linebacker," said Cregar. "You
have to be big and strong to be a
good linebacker so I mainly have to

of my position better than anybody
else did. I have had to master my
position mentally to know what I
have to do because of my size."
"I really_ liked playing on of
fense," said Cregar. "They said
they needed linebackers and I was
kind of -- disappointed to move
over to defense but football is not a
game that you lre out for yourself.
You have to dt what is best for the
team. You can't do what you
always want to do."
Cregar will be calling the

season. He hopes to get a shotat
playing professional football
whether it is in the NFL or the
newly created World Football
League. Many feel he might make
it for some pro team because of his
great speed for a linebacker (4.8 in
the 40). He is able to cover a lot of
ground.
"People say that defense is easy
to play because you are dishing out
the punishment, but that is not.
true, contrary to popular opinion,"
said Cregar. "You have to eet
through the blockers to get the ball
carrier and it just takes an awfully.
good linebacker to do everything a
linebacker is supposed to do."
This is Cregar's final season at
USC, and it ne does not get any pro
offers he is' planning on going to
dental school. He considers the
Florida State upset one of the more
exciting games of his career. On
offense that night he rushed for
nearly 70 yards in USC's 24-21
victory. "I always enjoyed the
Clemson games," he said.
"I really hope the fans stick with
us after our loss to Georgia Tech.
One game doe' not make a season
and everybody needs to stay
togetherif we are going to have a
successful season."
Cregar hopes that USC can go to
a bowl game .It could be the last
game he plays.
