In the case of,Scott Thomas, flanker in the Carolina football team,it means more than that. For Thomas it's more of a way of life. "I started playing football back when I was in junior high school, and I just kind of fell in love with the game. It just kind of grows on you. When you're a little kid you watch it on TV all the time, and everybody had heroes and stuff. I come from a rather big athletic family so I grew up playing sports," he said. As well, his brother, Brad, plays for Carolina. Growing up in such and en vironment, Thonan received encouraged as well as training from his family. He recalls how he was taught to catch a football. "When I was seven or eight years old, my father stood me against the back wall of our house and throw the football to me. We would throw the football before that and I would catch it with my body like most little kids do. My father said that's not the way to catch a football,. that you had to catch it with your hands. So he stood me against the house abott 10 yards from me and threw balls right at my face, so I had to reach up and catch it with my hands or if I missed the ball it would hit my head and bang it up against the wall. I guess you could consider it rather strong teaching metphods, but I just thank the dear Lord that he did it." Whatever the method helearned to catch a pass by, Thomas learned well. We aren't afraid at all of playing him. He has good speed as well," Dietzel said. Aside from being a football player, 'Thomas also pitches for Bobby Richardson's baseball team. Last season he posted a 1-0 record and a 1.93 ERA. A junior, Thomas has one more year, left at Carolina, but is already thinking about the future. He majors in advertising and public relations in Journalism.
