If the USC soccer. team'E
scrimmage with Erskine Saturday
is any indication of the success ol
this year's team, the Gamecocks
should greatly improve lasi
year's 8-71 record. USC behind a
strong offensive game, defeated
Erskine 9-4.
The offensive punh was led b)
sophomore John Rosier who scored
four gonl,.. Rosier, who led the
team last year with 19 goals
scored iwice in the opening period
and twice in the closing period.
The scrimmage was divided iri
three thirty-minute periods.
The Gamecocks wasted no timc
getting on the scoreboard as

USC's goalie, Ken Jefferson, had
been taken down in some rough
play around the USC goal.
USCrecovered and Rosier
scored his first goal minutes
later on an assist from Crossan.
Less than two minutes later Rosier
scored again, this time
unassisted on some greaL foot
work.
Erskine finally got going on a
score at 18:42. After a great save
by Jefferson , the goalie fumbled
the ball and Breedan,a freshman,
booted it in from close range. Five
I minutes later Breedan scored
again on a hard shot from center to
pull Erskine within one at the end
of the first period, 3-2.
Both coaches substituted freely
in the second period. Erskine tied
the score on a shot by Carter mid
way through the period. The
Gamecocks got going once again
late in the period. Jefferson scored
on a breakaway as the shot scooted

goalie.
In the third period both teams
again went with their regulars.
Gregg Bonn got the Gamecocks on
the board quickly -with a score
after only 1a17 had elapsed.
Shortly after USC was penalized
and Passos easily made the Er

The Gamecocks applied more
pressure but the Erskine goalie
made a great stop of McCord's
strong shot. Seconds later Rosaier
scored his third goal on an assist
from Hankinson. The Gamecocks
continued to get good defence and
at 15;35 Rosier scored yet another
goal on a breakaway. Gregg Bonn
got the assist on the play. USC,
seemingly overpowering now,
scored once more on McCord's

USC Coach Albers was ex
ceptionally pleased with his
team'sperformance, especially
Rosier. "He's good for at least one
goal a game," remarked Albers.
"'Hankinson and McCord were a
great one-two punch at mid-field.
Albers was also very pleased wsith
the play of Bonn, a transfer from
Appalachian State.
