Pink F
BY TERRY DUGAS
A Review
The advertisements for "Pink
Floyd"read "More than a movie."I
would rate it as being less than a T.
V. show.
The film was made several years
ago by an Italian company and
just released in America to
capitalize on the success of the
album "Dark Side of the Moon."
The film can be described as
boring at best and painful at worst.
That boredom comes from the
amateurish direction and camera

There is no continuity between
segments except for a meaninaless
episode in which Pink
Floyd eats at a diner. The director
used traveling shots of speakers
and electronic equipmeRt for
reason other than to show the
equipment. Multiple images and
back projection are used with no
thematic purpose in mind.
The most puzzling part of the
film is the obsession with the

stantly focused on the drummer.
This obscures the talents fo the
rest of the group and becomes
boring very quickly.
If there is any reason to the use
of shots in the film it- may be
because the director had seen them
used beofre. The split screen was
most success for in "Woodstock."
so the director usdd it in "Floyd "
The scenes of the Beatles recor
ding in the studio were some of the
better parts of "Let It Be," so
studio scenes were used in "Floyd.'

The only successful part of the
film was in the opening segment,
"Echoes, Part One." The music of
Echoes is haunting and moody. To
visually e xpress this, the director
lised a montage of paintings,
sculptures, and ruins from
Pompeii. The effect was to
heighten the sense of isolation and
fraility that accompaniews sthe
music. Unfortunately, the director

There .is no reason to see this
film. If youare a Pink Floyd fan,
you will be disappointed at the lack
of coverage of the groups vir

images which destroy the mood of
the music. If you are not a Floyd
fan, you will fall asleep.
