wanted. Others just complained.
Mitchell said the individual
departments make the decision as
to how many people they want to
work at registration tables. He
said the departmenhts should have
planned for the long lines and the
great number of students.
Becky Anders, a Clemson
transfer and political science
major, said of her first registration
experience: "It wasn't as bad as
everyone said it was going to be. I
don't know, if you were not too
picky about what you wanted to
take, it wasn't too bad." She said
Clemson has a better registration
plan. It was "real easy" there she
said. Anders registration time was
4 p.m. Friday.
Most of the departments con
tacted by The Gamecock called
said registration went fairly
smooth for them. Most said they
had more students than they ex
pected, but had no really major
problems.

The bigger departments such as
psy:hology, had problems with
long lines, but officials uaid they
had so many people, they were
"swamped."
Dean Ernest Furchtgott said
they had more people working this
time, but that it was not enough.
He said the reasons for the long
lines in his department was the
checking of the student , names
against pre-registered roles.

ficials said the only problem they
had was that one of their
professors quit at the last minute
and left two sections uncovered.
The English Department said
they had no problems to speak of in
registration. Their main com
plaint, like most the other
departments was that there were
more students than they expected.
The English Department said it
had about 33 per cent greater
enrollment than it expected.
