"Cockfight '74 , the intra-squad
game that annually climaxes
spring football practice at
Carolina, will be the feature at
traction Saturday when the
Gamecocks celebrate the third
annual "Day of the Gamecock".
Results of Wednesday morning's
player draft left Gene McKay's
Garnet squad with starting
quarterback Ron Bass and tw(
starting wide receivers for USC's
Saturday night's intra-squad
football game which will culminate
spring drills.
Defensively, McKay's squad
seems to have divided evenly with
Bob Fulton's Black team, bul
Fulton appears to have gained ar
advantage on the offensive line.
McKay and Fulton will serve as
head coaches in the game which
will be coached by members of the
local media.
USC students and faculty will be
admitted free with an ID. Adull
tickets cost $3 and : onts other
than USC's must pay $2.
The USC Association of Let
termen will sponsor a $2.50 bar
becue at 5 p.m. preceding the 7:3(
game.
Football won't be the only spor
on tap, however, as the Carolina
baseball team, ranked litt
nationally by Collegiate Baseball
takes on fourth ranked Georgia
Southern in a doubleheader and the
Gamecock track team meets Eas
Carolina in a dual meet.
The first baseball game begins at
1 P.M. at the Rex Enright 'Athletic
Center diamond. The track meet
starts at 4 P.M., at the Weems
Baskin Track, and kickoff time for
Cockfight '74 is 7:30 P.M., in
Williams-Brice Stadium.
