'Day Of Gamecock' Sports Activities Listed Members of the Columbia area broadcast and student news media will get close to the action April 27 when they serve as "coaches" for Cockfight '74, the Carolina's an nual spring intra-squad football game. Cockfight '74 will feature the third annual "Day of the Gamecock," with Carolina's strong baseball and track teams on display along with the football squad. Coach Bobby Richardson's baseball team will kickoff the Day of the Gamecock at 1 p.m. with a doubleheader against Georgia Southern -- which placed third in the NCAA indoor championship meet -- will meet East Carolina at 4 p.m., at the Weems Baskin Track. Cockfight '74, the football game, will follow at 7:30 p.m., in Williams-Brice Stadium. The intra-squad game will climax five weeks of spring football practice at South Carolina. Head football coach and athletic director Paul Dietzel announced that members of the news and broadcast media will participate as coaches in the spring game. Gene McKay, WIS Radio per sonality, will serve as head coach of the Garnet squad, assisted by Lamar Leachman of the Gamecock coaching staff. Bob Fulton, voice of the Gamecock football and basketball networks, will be head coach of the Black squad, assisted by Gamecock assistant coach Bob Gatling.
