Baseba Sweeps BY JIMMY BELLINGER Sports Writer Carolina's Baseball team con cluded a five-game road trip with an impressive doubleheader sweep over 'a strong Florida State club to improve the Gamecocks record to 19-3. The team travels to Clemson Thursday for an afternoon game and returns home for two games with Wake Forest and Francis Marion on Friday and Saturday afternoons. Strong pitching by Greg Ward and Earl Bass carried the Gamecocks in both games Tuesday. Ward went the distance in the opener, raising his record to five and one. He allowed only three hits in the seven inning game. Carolina scored in the first on two infield hits and an error. They added another run in the fourth and two in the sixth in a game in which they never trailed. Florida State's only run came in the fifth when Carolina committed two errors. Bass scattered five hits in the second game and increased his record to 5-0, but the 1-0 win did not It's a natural high! Yankees-Mets Tickets Left Tickets are still available for the April 2 major league exhibition between the New York Mets and New York Yankees at the Rex Enright Athletic Center. Student tickets for the game cost $2 and adult passes cost $3. They are available at the USC athletic ticket office located behind the Roost. Carolina's baseball team will see activity with both squads in a nine out game preceding the exhibition. The Gamecock's junior slugger, Hank Small, will take part in a homerun hitting contest just before the exhibition.
