In an etfort to reach the un
,-killed would-be athlete, the USC
Intramural Department is ex
pa"--ing its program and offering
mini-courses in numerous sports
for the individual.
The program will start the
Mci;day after Spring Break and
sign-up for the various one-hour,
one-night per week courses will
continue throughout the week. The
courses will last five weeks.
"The whole purpose of the
program is to get rid of the com
petitive atmosphere that now
exists in intramual sports,,' said
Donna Hutcheson, a graduate
assistant for Dean Alexander
who is helping to coordinate the
program. "Right now, you have to
already be skilled in a sport before
you can compete in the intramural
program.
"This will be more of a learning
experience. This will be aimed
more at developing basic skills,"
Hutcheson said.
The recreational courses are
open to all USC students, faculty
staff and families on a first-come,
first-serve basis.
Tennis, handball, golf, swim
ming, racquetball, camping and
backpacking, weight lifting and
swimming for children ages five to
eight years are the courses being
offered.
Sign-up will be held for each
course at the first meeting of the
course. The tennis course will be
March 25, 6:00 p.m. on the tennis
