Afterm BY MARK MORROW In the aftermath of USC's streaking episode, university workers were out at dawn picking up strewn paper, bottles, tree limbs and various paraphernalia of fri;volity. The trampled bushes. A dented car top. A dented hood. A broken tree limb swinging listless] in the early morning air. The silence except for the shrill sound of a bird. All conjured up images of the clamor and merry making of the night before. The night when 500 nude students ran the length of the campus. But the images are all the mind can conjure. There is no way to capture the moment of excitement; the youthful en thusiasm. It is all lost in a thousand meaningless words and ex pressions. Once the streakers had passed and I had seen them all; the moment was gone. An uneasy feeling replaced what was only moments before the most carefree emotion I had experienced in months. I wished somehow time could be stopped and I could get off for a while because here was a moment in which nothing really mattered. However, my mind remembered that I had a test tc take the nextday, I remembered I was failing a course and I realized all too soon that the holiday was over; the moment I wanted desperately to capture was gone. All I could do was look back at the evenings events and smile a knowing smile. They will laugh, ex change stories and when all possibilities for discussion are exhaustedthey will file their stories and personal feelings away in some private corner of the mind where one keeps the best ex periences of life. Groups of people will gather all day to talk about streaking and their plans for future streaks. Some will vow they will join on the next streaking. Others said they would never participate for reasons ranging from religious to puritian practicality. If there is another streak, it could only be anti-climactic to Monday night's streak. Streaking is something that has a very short term ap peal. Like a panty raid, about once a semester or once a year is enough. If students ran naked for a few days, eventually no one would pay any attention; the uniqueness of a naked student running through campus would cause about as SatG.S ,2.( ) TRO Y (ER - I Record-] much of a stir as a fully clothe, student walking in front of Russel House. The enthusiasm of Mond, night'sstreak will never have i equal. That special moment gone. It will never be on tl campus again. It will take anoth unique occurence to stir ti masses again and that uniqi occurence is probably not in tl near future. However, the sight 500 streaking females has ti potential of being an occureni that may stir the hearts and mini of at least the male student body But as for creatingthegreat citement and eiorgy of Mond, night's streak on campus, ti chances are very small. All those who were lucky enoul to attend or participate in the ma streaking have a once in a life tin experience to file away. When o1 kids ask what we did for fun college (assuming of course the: is such an institution at that tim, we can tell them proudly we r, naked in front of thousands people or we spent one night of o1 lives witnessing the most uniqi >ccurrence that has ever hit collel campuses. We can dig into th special corner of our minds at pull out the best features of oi memory. We can tell them what we di but we can never tell tham what was like to run the length of college campus nude. And I dor know if we should even try. Tho: experiences are too near our bei, to be expressed accurately.
