Service C BY MARK MORROW USC is changing vending operations on campus because of poor service, according to Bill Carter of Auxiliary Services. Carter said that up until a month ago the university was being serviced by four vendors; Coke, Pepsi, Wometco and Cig Midlands but now Cig-Midlands will handle all operations. Carter attributed increased vandalism to the poor service and the price increases in food. He said the students got mad because the machines were not full or because they would not work and took out their anger on the machines. However, Carter pointed out that a student in a university should be able to control his temper and take a more mature approach to the problem. If a student is cheated by the machine or he finds it out of order, he can report it to the desk or his dorm advisor and he will give the student his refund on the spot. Carter said he felt this would cut down on the vandalism considerably. The Dormitory governments get 50 per cent of the proceeds from vending operations. Carter said if there is vandalism on the machines then he subtracts the damages from the dorm governments'share Orator st Finds Ne teach the best way I can. I feel I am achieving so much. Nelson finds languages challenging and enjoyable, saying, "Like most freshmen I am getting behind in my studies. I am not able to attend all the class sessions. After four letters of the Arabic alphabet I thought I knew it all. Now that we are progressing in finishing the 29 letters I am having serious doubts." He said this program has helped prevent vandalism. Carter believes that changing vending machine operations will also decrease vandalism. Cig Midlands, he said, has given USC excellent service in the past. The Cig-Midlands vendors have worKea on the east side of campus servicing Capstone, Humanities and the BA building. Sabbaugh is instructing the class in a methodicai manner, noticing that American students do not acquire the basic background and enthusiasm in a foreign language. They are pushed to start learning grammar and memorize boring rules. Instead , Sabbaugh em phasizes the formation of sen tences such as everyday greetings and simple phrases. Ac cording to Carter, the machines must be in use for five years before they begin to show any real profit. If the machines are broken before that time the vendors must take the machines out. Carter said he hopes to have all the machines installed by Friday. He said some dorms would be without vending machines this week. Bruce W.
