Students I
To MakelI
By Libby Isaacs
A loud cry is indeed being made
and it's much too loud for the oc
casion that inspired it: President
Thomas F. Jones has legitimately
resigned and a new president, also
legitimately, has been appointed.
Yet there are moans from every
side because we, the student body,
had no oice in his election and
hence "no voice in the type of
education we receive and pay for."
It's all been said before, you know;
but evidently a few more com
ments need to be made on this
matter of the "student voice"
There are areas of education
where the student's opinions are
essential for both his and the
school's progress. But just as
obviously, there are other areas in

wisdom--and hence not the right to
make decisions or policies. A
university is not and never can be a
government, run by votes and
elections. Political rhetoric and
references to Watergate do not
even apply to our situation. The
blind fanaticism of a frustrated
(and presumably outdated)
radical may and does have its
place in politics; to find it in the
rationale of a serious student is
appalling.
Confused idealism and
adolescent reasoning are the very
flaws in the student population that
perpetuate the gap between
students and the administration

there is a deplorable lack of un

disregard between us is un

with the much-needed gap of

I wonder where Ms. Cordova's
values are. How does who propose
to "act," and for whom? Before
we hope to have any sort of voice as
a student body, we'd better learn
how to speak--reasonably,
maturely, and (if possible) in
unison.

West said he had no plans to
enter a political contest after his
term as governor expires in 1975.
He also commented he has "no
interest in becoming president of
the university."
He also said he regarded Provost
William Patterson's election as
USC president as "an excellent
one."
Concerning plans to im
plementate a new administrative
system at Carolina, West said he
really did not know enough about
the proposed plan to have an
opinion.

from the Governor. He said,
"Based on the evidence I've read
there is not sufficient evidence for
impeachment."'
In view of the revelat' n of the
erasure of 181%2 minutes from the
alleged "Watergate" tapes. West
explained, "I think it's incumbent
on the President to provide ex
planation concerning erasure
of the 18% minutes."
West also said if the gas pinch
situation worsens he may be forced
to implement the "Oregon" system
of rationing. This system allows
cars with even numbered license
tags to buy fuel on even numbered
days and odd numbered tags
allowed to buy on odd numbered
days.
