Humanlsi BYKMERRY BATEMAN Women are now beginning to have an ineresed self awareness and confidence about them selves. They are doing things unheard of five, ten and twenty years ago. Men are now thinking differently about themselves," said Wilma Heide. Heide, president of the National Organization of Women (NOW), opened Women in Focus Week as keynote speaker at the New Business Administration Building Tuesday night. Heide is a " feminist humanist" who is seeking to help eliminate discrimination against both women and men. "The symbol of justice in this country is a woman, a blindfolded woman. We are working to take these blindfolds off," she stated. Heide sees the Feminist movement as one of education of teaching men and women to remove those blindfolds. She concerns herself with defining the goals of NOW. She talks of daycare centers, of childcare and who handles it, of redesigning jobs, of welfare and poverty and of the proposed Equal Rights Amendment (ERA). "Education should be a mutual endeavor for those involved. Students should take part in all phases of education. She calls feminism a major public health issue although the United States Public Health Agency has not agreed with her. Heide men tioned the result of the feminist movement is to put sex in its place. She offered advice for filling out future applications. It's going to take profound universal behavioral revolution. It's starting to happen. Call me a confirmed optimist,"Heide said,"but things are changing."
