Installation of information
booths in the Coliseum and
business administration
parking lots is expected to
begin Thursday.
Designer John Califf said
Vice President for Business
Affairs Harold Brunton, SGA
Vice President Leigh
Leventis and he will meet
Wednesday to decide the
location for the booths or
Kiosks.
W. S. Turbeville, Director
of Physical Facilities and
Planning, said, "If they
decide on Wednesday where
to put the booths, then we'll
move the booths on Thur
sday. We would like very
much to get them out of the
shop. Construction was
delayed because the design
was refected several times."
Construction was supposed to
begin nearly two months ago.

A proposal that would set the
University tuition fee rate at a
set amount for each student
has been taken into con
sideration for study by the USC
Board of Trustees.
The proposal was made by
board member Michael J.
Mungo. His idea is to set up a
standard tuition fee that would
be alloted to the various
organizations around campus.
"It's just to simplify the
system of billing," Mungo

eight feet tall. They are
painted red and white and
have roofs. In addition, a
large bulletin board will be
placed inside the Coliseum
near the canteen. All three
structures, hold Gamecocks
and pamphlets as well as
posters, messages and
notices of upcoming events.
According to Dr. Kenneth
L. Davis of General Studies,
the information booths are
part of an effort by the
faculty and students in the
College of General Studies to
"integrate themselves into
the rest of the university."
Davis said there has been a
severe lack of com
munication between the
College of General Studies
and the rest of the university
since General Studies
became a college in 1972.
The problem came to a
climax last semester when
two write-in candidates from
General Studies were elected
and then challenged by the
Election Review Board.
explained," we should say
we're going to charge X
number of dollars, charge the
fee and allot the money out."
Mungo pointed out that it
was "just good business" and
would keep down confusion
about expenditure of monies
for activities and
organizations.
In reference to the student
activity fee Mungo said there
was at least one student
.becoming confused over the
collection of the fee each year.

According to Neal Hartman,
student activities coordinator
for General Studies, no one,
students or faculty, had any
knowledge of the elections
until election day. An appeal
of the review board's
decision was made to the
Student Supreme Court and
the student senate seats in
question are still being
contested.
Davis said, "We don't
think any of this was a
vendetta against General
Studies, just a lack of com
munication. We've pursued
for so long and run into so
much red tape that we're
confused. We were promised
that we would have those
information booths before
Thanksgiving."
Bruce McCarty, who was in
charge of building the kiosks,
said, "They were supposed to
go up Monday. They've been
sitting here for two months.
We aren't responsible for
deciding the location. We
only build and install them. "
have to pay, " Mungo said. He
said the fee was collected
equally from each student and
it was left up to student
discretion as whether to take
advantage of the privileges
that come with payment.
Mungo said his proposal did
not stem from a recent suit
filed against USC by third-year
law student Robert Clarkson.
"I don't know whether his
arguments are valid or not. It
is just a matter of how far one
will carry the subject," he
said.
