Pelfrey also pointed out that the
SGA bill had been amended sub

administrative representatives
from such a committee and have it
equally divided between students
and faculty.
In the advisory committee report

"Overcall of a grade on sustantive
grounds as distinguished from
mechanical accuracy is a delicate
matter that raises the issue of
'competence to determine com

freedom should not be encouraged.
"Ordinarily protection of the
student against substantive malice
must reside in the integrity of the
teacher and not in ultimate 'Grade

current ad hoc committee set up to
study athletic funding.
The new committee would give
the administration a larger share
of the decision making power in
that three representatives from
administrative departments would
take voting seats on the com
mittee. These administrative
seats would be appointed by USC
President Thomas F. Jones and
will come one each from the
athletic department and the
divisions of student and business
affairs.
The recommendation brought
sharp question from Charles B.
Weasmer of the government and
international studies department.
He said he was under the im
pression that the advisory com
mittee had been charged with
studying the jurisdiction of the
faculty athletic committee and
"not its membership."
Elmer G. Schwartz, chairman of
the senate, spoke for the com
mittee saying it had responded to
its charge by considering the
membership problems along with
those of jurisdiction.
South Carolina resident status
can mean a savings of more than
$700 a year in academic fees for
USC students.
However, a student is not eligible
for in-state fees until a
12-month period has elapsed after
making a permanent home in
South Carolina. This applies to a
dependent student whose parents
have decided to make South
Carolina a permanent home; the

Jazz
Tonight
The St. Louis Jazz Quartet will
appear tonight in the Carolina
Coliseum at 8:15 sponsored by the
University Union Cultural Series.
The St. Louis Jazz Quartet is an
organization of vigorous and
talented musicians both practiced
and innovative in providing en
joyment of jazz as a significant
form of music.
While specializing in stinqulating
jazz works, the four retain their
ties to all forms of music from the
classical to modern and the
sounder compositions in pop
works, adapting these forms to
jazz interpretations. Their concert
program runs the gamut from
blues to ballad to spirituals to jazz.
Jeanne Trevor is the vocalist.
One critic said "Miss Trevor has a
voice that sparkles and cuts like a
knife."
