Season
The Rockets' leadership centers
around senior captain Mike
Parker, who averaged 14.2 points
last year. The forward is counted
upon for strong defense.
The remainder of the Rocket
squad did not see much playing
time last season--either sitting on
the varsity bench or playing on the
JV court.
Carolina's squad comes into the
game off of an intrasquad game
which failed to impress most
viewers. Other thanimpressive 32
point performances by both
Alexander English and Tom
Boswell--a transfer student who is
ineligible to play at all this season
the remainder of the squad did not
enjoy a good game.
The consensus opinion of the
squad following the practice game
was that they were glad to have
gotten their bad game over with.
Starting guards Mike Dunleavy
and Brian Winters experienced a
very poor shooting night-putting in
a combined total of six shots on 28
attempts. "I hope I got all my
misses out of the way," said
Winters in the locker room. "Mike
and I are much better shootersthan
what we shot tonight."
Last year, the Gamecocks
opened on the road and lost to
Tennessee. The results of the
opener this season should be more
leasing to Coach Frank McGuire.
